What We Believe

As an American Baptist Church we believe:

  • We believe in God who is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
  • Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God and remains in a state called "sin".
  • Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God means eternal torment. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.
  • Jesus Christ is the only Son of God who was born of the Virgin Mary. He being both fully God and man, is in being with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of kings, and Lord of lords.
  • Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by faith and trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sins’ penalty. The Gift of Salvation Resurrection and Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian.
  • The Holy Spirit is third Person of a Triune God along with the Father and the Son, Together they are One Holy God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He provides the Christian with power for living, discernment and implementation of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right.
  • We believe in the inerrancy of Holy Scripture and the teachings it contains. We further affirm in the practice of living a life of holiness according to a traditional/ Biblical model of Christianity including: Covenant Marriage, Traditional Family, the Sanctity of Life and the spread of the same Gospel throughout all nations.
  • Lena Baptist Church affirms God’s gracious intention in creation, for the sanctity and dignity of all human life, for human sexual conduct as defined in scripture is faithful, lifelong heterosexual union for married persons (one man and one woman) and committed celibate behavior for unmarried persons. Other sexual practices clearly defined as sinful in scripture are destructive of individuals, of community and the fellowship of believers, and like all sin, call for repentance, openness to the transforming power of God, and the restoration to the community of faith. (Genesis 1:27, 2:24, 1Thessalonians 4:3-8, Hebrews 13:4); (Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, Romans 1:8-32, 1Corinthians 6:9-10) In accordance with our American Baptists beliefs, we must follow our faith and reject adultery, fornication, homosexuality, or any other alternative sexual behavior, as contrary to God’s will on the basis of scripture. We reject violence of all kinds against persons of every race, creed, religion and sexual orientation including heterosexual, homosexual, bi-sexual and transgendered persons.
  • Lena Baptist Church encourages grace-motivated ministries which respond to the human need for grace and offer God’s transforming love to all wounded and broken people.
  • Lena Baptist Church Believes in the autonomy of the local church.  The church consisting of the fellowship of regenerate believers is and ought to be free from state and denominational interferrence. Lena is committed to work in cooperation with other believers within the local association, region and eccumenically for the benefit of the kingdom and the effectiveness of the ministries as described in Matthew 28:19-20 (Great Commission).
  • A Believer's Baptism by immersion in recognition of a public profession of faith.
  • Celebration of the Lord's Supper. The Communion is in observance of the Passover meal that Jesus shared with His disciples when He instituted the new covenant in the elements of bread and wine.
